How to Record Desktop Screen with VLC Media Player

Follow these steps to know how to record desktop screen with VLC Player on Mac and Windows PC.
Step 1: Launch / Open VLC Player on your Mac or Windows PC. If you don’t have VLC already installed, then you could download it from its official website VideoLan.org.
Step 2: Click on Media and then select Open Capture Device from the drop down options.

Step 3: In Open Media window, click on Capture Mode and select Desktop.

Step 4: Under Options section, change “Desire frame rate for the capture” to 15 fps or 30fps (recommended).

Step 5: At the bottom of same window, click on upside down arrow button beside Play and select Convert from the list.

Step 6: In Convert window, under Settings section make sure that profile is set to “video – H.264 + MP3 (MP4).

Step 7: Click on Browse, select the directory where you wish to save the recorded video and give a name to your video.
Step 8: Once directory is selected, proceed by clicking on Start to begin the recording.
Step 9: Once you have finished recording, click on Stop payback button to stop and save the recording (refer image below).

Once you have saved your video, now open up the directory that you selected to save your video and there you have your recorded desktop screen video in MP4 format.
There are several other handy feature available in VLC media player such as the ability to watch YouTube videos on VLC Player, ability to convert video files to MP3 format and ability cut MP3 songs using VLC player.
