How to Block Any Website on Windows 7 and Windows 8 PC

There can be many reasons for blocking a website. One of the common reasons for blocking a website is to prevent the children  from accessing adult and gambling sites. Company and school authorities also block websites so that the employees and the students can concentrate on their study and work.
Well, if you have some other reasons to block a website then also follow below guide on how to block websites in school , college and home.
How to Block any website
You can easily block websites on your Windows 7 and Windows 8 PCThis method will block websites on all the web browsers including Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox and Internet Explorer.

How to Block Websites on Windows PC

Method 1: Changing DNS Server

Changing the DNS server is the  easiest method you can apply to block all the harmful websites.
Step 1: Go to Control Panel > Click on Network and Sharing Center
Step 2: Now click on Active Connection
Step 3:  Click on Adapter Setting, then Right Click on your Active Connectionand select Properties
OR
Double Click on Network icon from taskbar and click on Properties
Step 4: Now double click on Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Step 5: Now select Use “the following DNS server addresses
Step 6: Enter following DNS address in the given field as
  • Preferred DNS Server: 208.67.222.123
  • Alternative DNS Server: 208.67.230.123
Step 7: Click on OK and save the setting.
Method 2: Edit Host File (Block any Specific websites)
Now if you want to block only few or specific website then follow method 2. Here we will edit your Host file block any website.
Step 1:  Go to or Open:   C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc
Step 2: Now you can see a file named Host, right click on it and select Properties
Step 3:  In a new Windows click on Security Tab
Step 4:  In Security Tab, select Users (computer-PC\Users) and click Edit
Step 5: In the next window “Permissions for hosts” again select Users and Check all the options except “Special Permissions” to allow permissions and then press OK. (Refer below image)
How to block a website
Step 6: Now click on Advance, then on change permission
Step 7: In the next Window, select “Users (comouter-PC\Users) and click Edit
Step 8: Select all the options in “Permission Entry for hosts” window and then Press OK for all previous windows. (Refer Below image)
Edit Host File
Step 8:  Now again double click on Host file and Note pad to open it
Step 9: Now your host file will open in note pad.  Now add below IP address and the web address after the last line of host file code.
127.0.0.1
Example:    
127.0.0.1 Facebook.com
127.0.0.1 Hotmail.com
Block website by editing the host file
Step 10: Save the file.
That’s it. Now if you try to open Facebook.com or Hotmail.com, your browser will show a error message. You can add as many websites as you want and can block websites.
